What this calculator can and cannot decide

Container loading is a three-dimensional packing problem. The tool uses a packing heuristic to produce a practical estimate, but several arrangements may be possible and the mathematically best result is not always the safest warehouse loading sequence.

  • Use finished outer-carton dimensions, not product dimensions.
  • Enter gross carton weight including packaging.
  • Keep crushable, fragile or liquid cartons upright where required.
  • Check axle, floor-load and center-of-gravity requirements with the carrier.
  • Allow operational clearance near the doors when the loading method needs it.

How do I calculate how many cartons fit in a container?

Enter the packed carton length, width, height and quantity. The calculator checks three-dimensional placement as well as the container payload limit, then reports the planned and unpacked cartons.

Can I upload an Excel packing list?

Yes. Upload an XLSX, XLS or CSV file containing item or SKU, carton dimensions, quantity and gross weight. The file is processed locally in your browser and the imported rows remain editable.

Should cartons be allowed to rotate?

Only allow rotations that are safe for the product and packaging. Cartons containing liquids, fragile assemblies or products with an upright requirement should use the upright or no-rotation setting.

Why is a container full before all CBM is used?

Carton dimensions may leave unusable gaps, and payload weight can be reached before the theoretical volume. Door clearance, stacking support and loading rules can also reduce usable capacity.

Is the 3D loading plan guaranteed to be optimal?

No. Three-dimensional bin packing is a complex optimization problem. The result is a planning estimate produced by a packing heuristic and must be reviewed against real handling and safety requirements.

What information is needed for a container shipping quote?
